How Do Our Meets Work?

Our Story

Just Swim Charlotte was created in 2013 exclusively for the purpose of swim meet administration.  Our goal was to deliver a fun and easy swim meet experience to new and veteran teams alike.  Swim meets for our participating teams typically last anywhere from 2hrs to 3hrs.  Technology is an instrumental tool in alleviating the burden on volunteers, and we have a collaborative atmosphere among coaches which puts families interests first.

The Power of the People

Despite all of our innovation, there is no substitute for volunteers - but we try HARD to keep the need for volunteers to an absolute minimum.  For dual meets, each team provides 3 timers, for tri-meets, 2 timers.  These individuals hold the watches at the end of the pool and manually stop the clock when the swimmer reaches the wall.  The use of technology is instrumental in reducing the burden on volunteers who would rather be watching the children compete.  The host team provides the tattoo-awarders at each meet.  Our goal is to help minimize the volunteer needs from the participating teams.

What to Expect at a Swim Meet

Swim Meets can seem crazy and confusing. If you are a 1st year parent, latch on to some veteran parents; they carry a wealth of information.  Download our 'What to Expect at a Swim Meet' guide below for lots of tips on surviving a summer swim meet!

The Sharpie Process

Have you ever noticed swimmers with writing on their bodies? Well, there is a good reason for that! Swimmers don’t have heat sheets, so how do they keep track of what events they are swimming in? By writing on themselves, of course!  This is a timeless tradition in the world of competitive swim and youth swimmers LOVE to participate.  Each swimmer should have their Event information written on their arm (or leg) a grid showing the Event number, the Heat number, the Lane number.
